“They wanted the route of the 101 Freeway to go south of town where Oxnard Air Force Base was, but Adolfo Camarillo had enough political pull in Sacramento that he got them to put the freeway right through the middle of town. Adolfo did not want his line of eucalyptus trees to be bypassed.” Bobby Hernandez
Thank you so much for this. I finally had time to listen and it was so incredible to hear dad’s voice again. He and Auntie Adele had some wonderful memories.
This was a great podcast. I remember Adele who seemed very glamorous to me! Her mother was a wonderful lady, the best Librarian ever, and since the library was in the complex where the fire station was, and where we Putnam’s lived. I spent a lot of time in that library!
My Dad was Jesse Jennings. He and my Mom Bonnie, opened Jesse’s Grill. It was the corner and the Hitching Post, was the next 2 parts of the current Bandits. If you look at the pictures in Bandits, you will see Jesse’s was a separate building, then the Hitching Post was built next to it.
Enjoyed this. I remember Mrs Flynn at the little library. I had read every book in the library that she felt was appropriate for me. She would call me when new books came in. Also as I got older, she let me read other books. Our house on Fulton was torn down for the freeway and we moved to West Chapel when I was 18 months old.
Record more interviews with Adele. She Is a walking repository of local history!
